Exploring Investment Opportunities: China Corporate Leaders Tour Tunas Industrial Estate as Part of Batam Industrial Hub

Wednesday (27/3/2024), 30 leaders of manufacturing companies from China visited Batam City to explore investment opportunities in the city. This visit was attended by members of the Suzhou Hunan Business Association which was organized by the Singapore Economic & Management Institute within the "Hunan Merchants Going Global to See the World" agenda, with the aim of visiting Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.

The visit of prospective investors from China to Batam City was aimed at seeking information regarding investment regulations, employment and immigration procedures. They are interested in investing in this city because of its strategic location, close to Singapore and Malaysia, as well as adequate infrastructure. Where Batam continues to improve its infrastructure such as ports, airports and industrial areas, as well as offering investor-friendly regulations.

Tunas Industrial Estate was one of the destination locations for the visit, where groups from the association visited several industrial areas developed by the Tunas Group, namely the Tunas Batam Center Industrial Estate (64 Ha), the Tunas Kabil Industrial Estate (30 Ha), and Tunas Prima Industrial Estate (100 Ha).

This visit to the Tunas Industrial Estate was aimed at learning about a number of large companies from China that operate there, such as PT. Walbor International, which is the largest manufacturer of electronic cigarettes, tobacco and food flavorings in China, operates in the Tunas Kabil Industrial Estate.

The entire visit to the investment plan was welcomed very well by BP Batam, considering the importance of the manufacturing industry as the backbone of the Batam City economy. This city has long been an export-oriented industrial center and has high economic value. Investment from China is also one of the second largest contributors after Singapore, with an investment value reaching USD 46.42 million and 137 projects in 2023.

BP Batam's optimism regarding investment from China can accelerate the economic growth of Batam City. It is hoped that this visit will open up opportunities for wider collaboration between entrepreneurs in Batam City and Chinese entrepreneurs to create new job opportunities that can help run the economy of Batam City even better.
